On Thursday, June 23, 2016 of Rockville, MD, Ruth Farrell, wife, mother, granny and dear friend to all passed away peacefully due to an aging heart. She was born July 22, 1923 in Fall River, Massachusetts to John and Ida Fitzgerald. She married her long-time childhood friend, Joseph Farrell, in April of 1947 who preceded her in death in 2007. While a New Englander at heart, Ruth adopted all things Washington DC, after moving here with her husband in 1948 making this her home for 68 years.

She loved reading, sports, travel and knitting. She held tight to her independence and self-reliance and led with kindness and love. But Ruth”s real and abiding passions were her family and friends. Ruth instilled in her children a strong work ethic and moral compass, a commitment to family and friends, and the power of a smile.

Ruth is survived by her son and wife, Joseph and Cris; and her daughter and husband, Kathleen and Robert; grandchildren, Michael Farrell, Steve Farrell, Julie Farrell Parker, Christopher Tynan and Patrick Tynan; plus 10 great-grandchildren and her sister-in-law, Gertrude Deda. All of whom she loved and touched deeply.

Kelley Katherine O’Connor, age 28, of Bethesda, Maryland passed away on Friday, June 24, 2016.  Kelley was born on January 21, 1988, the daughter of Helene Najar Walker and Michael Scott O’Connor.  Kelley graduated from Walt Whitman High School and was loved by family and friends for her caring ways and beautiful laughter.  She is survived by five siblings, Caitlyn, Justin, Maggie, Luke and Rex, and by her stepfather, William L. Walker and stepmother, Susan O’Connor. Kelley also leaves her maternal grandmother, Bernadette Najar of Bethesda, and her paternal grandfather, William J. O’Connor of Washington DC, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd W, Silver Spring, MD 20901 on Thursday, June 30, at 12 Noon and followed by a Celebration of Her Life at 1 PM.

Phyllis Anne Mulligan (Age 85)

Passed away Friday, June 24, 2016. Born on Valentine’s Day on Long Island, NY in 1931 to Frederick and Eleanor Menke. She graduated from Adelphi University in 1952, where she met her husband, Richard. They married on May 6, 1956, moving to Iowa, Texas, and finally settling here in Maryland. Phyllis worked for 12 years for Maryland – Social Services. She served as a dedicated Smithsonian docent upon retirement. She is survived by her loving husband, Dick; son Matt and wife Barbara and grandsons, Matthew and Daniel; daughter, Leslie; and son, Rick and wife Edna Armendariz and granddaughter, Alexandra. Phyllis was kind and caring, with a warm, nurturing nature. An avid bridge player, she also loved to write, especially about her global travels. As a talented artist, she created unique ceramic pieces for grandchildren. She was the heart of her family. Visitation will be held Friday, July 1, 7 to 9 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd West, Silver Spring, MD. On June 19, 2016 Ann Elizabeth Conarton Riseling passed away peacefully. Ann was born in Jermyn, Pennsylvania on April 11, 1927. Ann grew up in Carbondale PA and graduated from business school in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. During World War II she moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the federal government and for the CIA. She met her husband John J. Riseling Jr. (deceased) of Washington, DC and married in 1955. Catholicism was the foundation of Ann”s life and activities. She spent many years in the parish of St. John the Evangelist in Silver Spring. After the death of her husband she relocated to Carbondale, PA where she was active in the parish of Saint Rose of Lima. She was a member of the Social Guild, the Cardinal”s Appeal and she often led the rosary and regularly participated in church activities. Her beliefs were strong and her compassion for others ran deep. She was known by all to be kind, generous and to possess a sweet sense of humor. She loved to travel and visited several different countries in Europe, traveling to Ireland several times. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. She is survived by her son John Riseling of Bradenton, Florida, daughter Susan Riseling (Joanne Berg) of Madison, Wisconsin, and Linda Riseling (Steve) Lawless of Silver Spring, Maryland and by her two grandsons Seamus and Declan Lawless of Silver Spring, Maryland. You are invited to join the family in honoring Ann on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Saint John the Baptist Church, 12319 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, Maryland with the visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the Catholic funeral mass at 11 a.m. Interment will follow immediately at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, Maryland.
